A great website with a lot of information about the volcanoes, their origins, and possible recreational opportunities such as hiking, climbing, and educational day trips.  Contains some fantastic images of and from the Butte.

Deer Parks

The Deer Parks Wildlife Mitigation Complex was purchased from private ownersas partial mitigation for the 16,000 acres flooded by the Palisades Dam and Reservoir in eastern Idaho. The land is owned by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and is cooperatively managed by the BLM, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG), and The Shoshone-Bannock Tribes.

Opportunities to enjoy Deer Parks are as diverse as the landscape and the seasons. At the end of March, a flood of waterfowl fills Butte Slough, providing a welcome chance to get outside after winter and view wildlife. Almost any species of waterfowl found in southern and eastern Idaho can be found here, including Redbreasted Mergansers and Trumpeter Swans. In the spring, migrating songbirds and raptors fill the cottonwood forests, making Deer Parks a hot spot for birding. During any time of year, the gentle landscape is an open invitation for nonmotorized travel, whether walking, horseback riding, or cross-country skiing.

The Snake River is a whole source of recreation in itself. The river is open to fishing and boaters often observe beavers, mink, deer, and moose. In the fall, secret coves and backwaters provide places for waterfowl hunting.
